Information We Collect
We collect information to provide you with insights into your electric vehicle (EV) efficiency and savings.
- Account Information: When you create an account, we collect your email address and authentication details (via Google, Email, or Anonymous tokens).
- Vehicle Data (OCR): When you take a photo of your vehicle's dashboard, our app processes the image to extract metrics such as odometer readings, efficiency (mi/kWh), and battery state-of-charge.
- Regional Data: We may use your approximate location (at a city or regional level) to provide localized fuel price comparisons. We do not track or store your precise GPS coordinates or travel routes.
- Household Data: If you participate in a "Household," we collect information about shared vehicle profiles and invited members.
How We Use Your Information
- Efficiency Analysis: To calculate your lifetime kWh usage and total cost of ownership.
- Comparison Insights: To compare your EV performance against regional gas vehicle equivalents.
- Household Syncing: To allow multiple users to contribute data to a shared vehicle profile.
- App Improvements: To fix bugs and improve our OCR pattern matching.
Data Sharing & Household Ownership
Community Property Logic: Data contributed to a "Household" is shared among its members. If a user leaves a household, they may retain a copy of the data they contributed, while the household retains the historical record for shared vehicle integrity.
No Third-Party Sales: We do not sell your personal data, vehicle logs, or efficiency metrics to third parties, insurance companies, or advertisers.
Leaderboards: If you opt-in to global leaderboards, only your screen name and verified efficiency metrics are displayed.
Your Rights & Data Control
You can view your entire log history within the app at any time.
You have the right to delete your account and all associated personal data.
- In-App (recommended): Use the "Delete Account" button in the Settings menu. Because you're already signed in, this confirms your identity and processes the request directly.
- Web: If you can't access the app, email the.wattlog.app@gmail.com from the address associated with your WattLog account so we can verify your identity before processing.
Data Retention: We retain your data only as long as your account is active. When you request account deletion, your account is deactivated immediately and enters a 30-day grace period, during which it is excluded from active use. You may cancel the request at any time during this period by logging back in and confirming that you wish to keep your account; if you decline to confirm, you will not be logged in. After 30 days, your personal logs are permanently scrubbed from our production databases and the deletion can no longer be undone.
Security
We use industry-standard encryption (including Firebase Security Rules and SSL/TLS) to protect your data in transit and at rest. Access to household data is strictly limited to authorized members via secure UIDs.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics in aggregate, anonymized form to understand site traffic; we don't use it for advertising or share data with advertisers.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as WattLog evolves. We will notify you of significant changes via an in-app notification or the Google Group.
